A Little About Us
Swapna and I met in Philadelphia, where we attended college and have been together since! We both had some hefty school loans and knew it would take quite some time to pay them off just with our primary jobs. We knew we had some extra time to spare and started a Photo Booth business in 2016, which was our first entrepreneurial project together. Within a couple of years, we were fortunate enough to accomplish that goal of paying off our loans, and also got to experience many cool collaborations – such as Forbes, Hot 97, etc.
Around this time COVID entered all of our lives and we also found out we were expecting, so naturally the Photo Booth business got put on the back burner. We had a baby girl in 2021 and got to relish in all of the adventures of being new parents.
Never in our lives did we think in a few years, we would be behind one of the few South Asian toys available to us here in America, but seeing the world from our daughter’s eyes reiterated how important representation is. Even knowing from our personal experience that we did not grow up seeing dolls that looked like us, it became even more blatant thinking about our daughter growing up. Luckily, we live in a time where slowly, we are starting to see more diversity and representation in what is available these days, and we wanted to be a part of that. After a long year of research and design (we literally had no clue where to even start and had never made a toy before), we were able to create "Saree Swap" with our daughter as inspiration. In 2024, we were blessed to have a son and can't wait to share this experience with him as well!
We hope everyone (kids and adults as well!) enjoy the Saree Swap toy and that it opens the door to memories and stories of several generations. Conversations about where the outfits are from and what celebrations may be associated are all fun ways to bring the family together. We look forward to hearing from everyone who has the chance to get the product and share with us your story!
